Have you been looking around at all the changes in Google tools? It seems that almost everywhere you look, be it Webmaster tools, Adsense, Adwords, GAN there are new interfaces.
Is the design change what we the users asked for? Are the new designs beneficial to users? Or are they redesigned to hamper your productive use of any given tool?
Think about this. If you are a decision maker at Google, and you have teams of programmers getting paid huge sums of money to produce informational pages that you give freely to the public.
And then find out that that very generously given data is being exploited by a party to produce a piece of software that goes around the Google interface and gives you data results in what might seem to be an easier and better format.
You as a publisher of such software believe it’s for the overall benefit to the target user but you the software developer are reaping the monetary benefits from Google’s work.
The Google product manager will see yours teams products are being capitalized on by a third party and might even be making your teams result look poorly designed, what would you do?
You have to rethink your model for delivering that data. And simple changes are not going to stop the bleeding. It requires a complete redesign and strategy to circumvent those parties from abusing your contributions.
Hence the new interfaces popping up everywhere. We may not agree with the change or even by repulsed by it’s appearance, but we are not Google and we don’t pay their employees.
And the tools you purchased to streamline your productivity won’t work at all and that will honk you off, but better to have the data period than have it not be produced at all. We might not like it, but at least it’s not removed altogether.
